Skin Cancer Is Preventable!
Coach Mike's sister, Debbie, lost her battle with melanoma
(a form of skin cancer). She was 38 years old and left behind three young children.
Mike would like to spread the word that skin cancer is preventable and he encourages everyone
to use sunscreen. Much of the skin damage that leads to skin cancers in adults occurs
while they are children. It is very important that you protect yourself while out in the
sun.
Sun Exposure Facts:
- More than 1 million new cases of skin cancer are diagnosed each year in the US.
- Skin cancer is increasing at a faster rate than any other cancer.
- Every sunburn increases a child's chance of getting skin cancer as an adult.
- On average, children spend 3 times more time in the sun than adults.
- Eighty percent of a person's lifetime sun exposure is estimated to occur by age 18.
- One blistering sunburn can double a child's lifetime risk of developing skin cancer!
Shot Stoppers is a proud sponsor of the soccer kicks for cancer program. Mike is currently
involved with the program and can help any team or player get started in the program. For
